Concerts and Performances

Park Theatre promotes and supports art forms that emanate from and appeal to different ethnic communities in the densely populated urban area of northeastern New Jersey. Every year during its season the Theatre stages different programs that appeal to members of the various communities in the area.

This Fall, PPAC presented Bravo! Dances for the Americas, an evening of folk dance featuring performers from the Hispanic State Parade and honoring Tina Ramirez, founder of Ballet Hispanico. Also, Manuelcha Prado, an Andean singer/songwriter performing in our intimate Salon setting and Gian Marco, a rising star in the Latin American community, on the Main Stage.

In 2000, the Park Theatre also pioneered its First Annual Showcase of Hudson County Performing Artists. Conceived and produced in collaboration with the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, the aim of this showcase is to introduce local and statewide audiences to a wide range of performance styles represented by talented artists in the county. While each artistic group has its own following, this showcase will introduce new audiences to the music and dance styles enjoyed by other groups in the area.

PPAC also ran three years of free outdoor summer concerts, Park in the Parks, in Hudson Countyıs Washington and Union City's Ellsworth Park. Performers, again reflecting the diverse surrounding population, have included Samir Chatterjee's Chhandayan Ensemble, Ginga Brasileira, and Senegalese singer Ousmane Gueye.
