At Park we believe that access to the arts is an essential component to every child’s well-being. Consuming and practicing forms creative expression is a means to understanding identity, culture and humanism in a global society. Through arts education, students acquire the skills and awareness that are necessary for personal success and making contributions to their communities and others.
Research has shown that young people who participate in the arts for at least three hours on three days each week for at least one full year are:
- 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement
- 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within their schools
- 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair
- 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance
- 4 times more likely to win an award for writing an essay or poem
All children taking the art classes will expand their imaginations by engaging in fun, productive projects in each class. Through basic art techniques, the children will learn about different painters as well as create holiday crafts and drawings, learning all the while to express their creativity and encourage their imagination to grow.
Ballet/ Creative Movement
The class aims to capture and nurture young children’s instinctive joy of movement, freedom of expression, and energy. The class enables children to learn to move in space and explore their independence and social interaction through music and dance.
Ballet I and II
The classes provide a broad, practical dance, education and develop technical musical and performance skills. Children will develop physical stamina, creativity, expression, and musicality while focusing on technique, flexibility, balance, turns, jumps, and strength.
Hip Hop/ Jazz
This introductory level class provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop and Jazz dance movements for students. In a fun filled and vibrant environment, the class offers combinations and classic routines. Students will use popular songs and choreograph fun, creative routines.
The practice of yoga strives to deliver an invigorating and balanced moving, meditation, ultimately bringing union of body, mind and spirit with a deep sense of calm.
Ages 3-5: Children are introduced to the structure and discipline of the Marinera dance. Activities are designed to develop strength, coordination, creative thinking, and expression while learning the Marinera dance. Basic elements of dance include rhythm, movement quality, space, and body awareness are explored during the class. Students’ imaginations are expanded and their self-esteem is strengthened through the dance
6 years and up: Children learn performance pieces from the Trinity repertoire that are performed in local shows, festivals, and events. Beginning dance students work on building endurance, stamina and strength through warm up routines and choreography in the Marinera technique.
Intermediate and advance dance students will develop their individual styles by coordinating strong footwork and an expressive upper body. They gain experience in the execution of the traditional dance steps, competitive moves and routines.
Theater for Kids
Children will explore the world of self expression through poems and short scenes. They will learn to interact with other young actors providing them with the exposure to teamwork and respect. Through theater games, they will learn how to walk, talk, and interact on stage.
